Board of Trade, October 20, 1911.
I AM directed by the Board of Trade to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 11th October, enclosing copy of a note from the Netherlands chargé d'affaires, in which he requests that he may be furnished, for the use of the delegates at the approaching Opium Conference, with statistics relative to the production and exporta- tion of morphia and cocaine from the United Kingdom.
In reply, I am to forward to you herewith a statement on similar lines to that furnished in the Board's letter of the 26th August, showing the quantity of morphia and cocaine of British and of foreign and colonial production exported from the United Kingdom in the first nine months of this year, and I am to suggest, for Sir E. Grey's consideration, that this statement should be transmitted to M. van der Goes, with the explanation that particulars of these exports have only been recorded since the commencement of the current year, and that it has proved impossible to compile any statistics in regard to the manufacture in the United Kingdom of the drugs in question.
